Thanks to the persistence of Katrina Rank and ParKanDo West, there is a NEW Dance for Parkinson’s & Wellbeing class beginning Wednesday 21 April 2021 at the Brooklyn Community Hall!

After the COVID-19 pandemic put a stop to the planned classes that were organised by ParKanDo West in 2020 they did not give up! Embracing the online environment, those that could migrated to participating in online classes via Zoom.

Now twelve months later, and with the support of Hobsons Bay City Council through its Make It Happen Grants program, the time has come to begin classes that will be offered both face to face and online, allowing for people to do what is comfortable and safe for them.

A dance class for all, based on the respected Dance for PD® model, the class begins seated and is accessible to all abilities. There is much anecdotal evidence and research that dance is of benefit to not only people with Parkinson’s but to everyone as they age. Shannon Parsons will be the Dance Artist leading the classes, she has been working with older people on and off for over ten years with it being her primary focus for the past three. Shannon has a love of sixties Brit pop, musicals and anything that can be sung along to, making all her classes fun, familiar and vibrant.

These classes at the Brooklyn Community Hall will be welcoming to all Seniors, people with Parkinson’s and other chronic conditions as well as people with a disability, their families and carers, who want to move, groove and maintain their physical and mental health! There are also volunteer opportunities.
